Winter gets me down...the cold makes it so hard to get motivated! While I have a garage I could work in, it means starting a fire for warmth, and well.....I am just not good at getting a good fire going!
However, with my craft room in the house, I finally managed to do a few little projects and thought this would be a good time to share them with you all, so let's get to it!
I want to show you that this project IS finished and ready for action. I decided to go with a memo board/charging station. The small yellow/gold unit on the right is for charging my phone with the holes in the side just right for slipping a charger into. The picture frame with cork in it is perfect for pinning small reminders, appointment cards, etc!
First up is an old photo frame that I have had a long time. It has been painted several times. With no glass and missing backing, I decided to use my glue gun and add some wood strips to the back, and some cork to the front of them for a home-made Mini bulletin board. I added a d-hook to the back to hang it with.
Next up is a small spice rack. I am really into bright happy colors lately instead of my usual pastels. So the spice rack is ... spicey! It doesn't show well, but the handle is metallic gold. I added yellow polka dot paper to the back and the front is an adhesive Washi sheet. This can easily be used as a small charging station, or as a nick nack shelf too.
Finally, is an end piece to an old crib.
For this piece, I used a fun method which I first saw on Sweet Pickins Furniture, using napkins. I special ordered these adorable black and white polka dotted napkins from Amazon.com and peeled the layers back so I had one single layer. Using mod podge, I glued the napkins on, and added mod podge to the top to seal. I think this method is the most FUN thing to do!
The design on the board was cut with my Silhouette Cameo, in both Oracal 651 & 631. The file came from the Silhouette Store and I added the banner ribbon. It's hard to see but "Great Day" is in purple, and that is a color I rarely play with. Love it!
My original idea, was to glue the bulletin board and the spice rack onto the crib end, making a command center of sorts, but I was so in love with the quote that I am now undecided about mixing it with a command center.
Here is an example of how I was going to set this up:
I am sure that when I am able to make a decision about this dilemma, it will be a bright and fun way to display photos, and stay organized too!
So aside from being a faithful reader here at Give Me A Paintbrush, I would totally appreciate your thoughts on attaching the bulletin board & 'charging station' to the new and improved 'crib' end.
Should they all go together? Or keep them separate? I am torn!
If I leave them separate, I could do more vinyl decorating on the board (crib) like trees, flowers, dragon flies, butterflies, birds. Then display family photo's along with all the decorations.
Meanwhile in other news: we have been dealing with snow and icy roads for months now. Nothing like the snow storm going on back East at the moment, but it's been awhile since we have had nice weather. Until today! It has been warm and sunny today. I got my garage cleaned up and vacuumed out my car! I would wash it, but the hose is very frozen.
The mule deer stop by from time to time and I got some good pictures of them right outside my picture window.
I hope you are all staying warm and being safe this winter, as well as making memories to cherish always!
Thanks for reading! Don't forget to submit your thoughts on adding or keeping the projects separate!
